How Learning Works: Building on Students’ Prior Knowledge

Facilitated by Mark Hoffman, Professor of Computer Science

February 7, 2012
12:30 – 1:45 pm
Mancheski Seminar Room, School of Business

Participants at the “Learning Paradigm in Action” Symposium workshop “How Learning Works” on January 17, 2012 learned four ways that prior knowledge can help and hinder learning.

Participants applied what they learned to situations they identified.  In this workshop, participants will use research-based strategies to assess, activate, correct and revise students’ prior knowledge to improve learning.

This workshop is a continuation of the symposium workshop; however, everyone is welcome to attend.

If you attended the symposium workshop, please bring your printed excerpt of “Seven Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching” (Ambrose et al. (2010)[1] and your workshop sheet.
